In the fall of 2021, a group of teen artists joined Patrick Michael Ballard for a weekly workshop that brought together a diverse range of materials and traditions of storytelling to reveal new and surprising forms of expression as they sculpted and choreograph their own personal cosmologies. Students challenged their expectations of identity, fertilized their dreams, and spun their making process into a rich material storytelling practice.

About the Artist
Patrick Michael Ballard is a cross-disciplinary storyteller utilizing material practice, theater, song, and collaborative game-making to expand and challenge conventions of fantasy, domesticated thought, and how we construct the idea of a “self”. Bringing together seemingly disparate crafts of puppet-making, quilting, felting, soft and hard foam sculpture, backyard metal casting, practical FX, miniature stage-design, improvisatory music, whimsical yet highly semantical list making, and noise, Patrick utilizes spoken-word threads to weave uncanny situations and spaces, revealing the many worlds of meaning and melding within the carnivalesque and mundane.
