Evolve is a three-part sequential series of individual surface design workshops exploring the processes of dyeing, printing, and embellishing cloth. Each session provides an in-depth and hands-on experience that builds on the previous sessions as participants create unique, multilayered works of color and composition. No experience necessary.

Artist Simone Evans will guide participants through the basics of dyeing, using direct dyeing applications and simple resist methods with commercial fiber reactive dyes on cotton and linen cloth. This workshop can be taken individually or as part of the summer surface design series, Evolve in collaboration with Textile Arts LA. 

Work with natural dye artist Cayetano Talavera and learn the fun art of flower pounding! Participants will create colorful designs as they learn flower pounding basics and hammer fresh blooms onto cotton and silk, transferring the color and shape of flowers to fabric.

Artist Christina Margarita Erives leads a clay workshop inspired by her work on view as part of our current exhibition, Wayfinding! Participants will learn basic hand building techniques and create their very own flora-inspired bud vase. Pieces will be glazed, fired, and available for pick-up at a later date.
